Hey all, some of you may remember me describing a computer chair that I planned on building, well building has begun.

The cost of the hardware (wood, screws, fastening plates, wheels) thus far has been $60.

Phase 1 is complete and the chair is sittable but not yet comfortable nor is it the least bit computer related.

Phase 2 will include:

- Right side armrest with built in mousepad and mouse
- Left side armrest with slide-away keyboard
- Speakers that extend forward from the headrest, on each side
- Subwoofer inside, halfway up, behind the backrest
- Computer inside the front area

Phase 3 plans:

- Carpet covering all surfaces (so the cats can climb it easier, as they inevitably will) Haven't decided what color yet.
- Very soft cushioning including pillowlike headrest.
- Finished enclosure including fans to blow the hot air out the top-back
- Door on right side to gain access to computer
- External CD drive built into left side, on the inside, which opens to the left.
- USB ports (not sure where yet)

Phase 4 / Possible ideas:

- Plexiglass left side to see inside + neon lights inside (as many people do with their computer)
- Electric wiring to allow everyting to be plugged in inside the chair, and then one power cord extending from the chair that plugs into wall
- Strong arm that extends from the back, over the sitter's head, then down in front of head with a flat panel monitor. (This i DEFINATLY intend on doing, but it will likely have to be last on the list due to $$$ reasons.

There you have it folks, I welcome any and all ideas you may have. This will be my chair but I wouldnt mind making more and selling. Below are pictures of the chair as it is now, featuring cameos by Shinji (little one) and Rizzo (big one).

haha, all you need is a feeding tube and a catheter hookup and you'll never have to get up...

Looks promising Rotto. I can't wait to see the finished product. I'll be looking forward to it. I like the idea with putting the flat screen on a strong arm thats gonna kick ass.

A flat screen seems a good idea but remember that the refresh rate of a TFT display is a maximum of 60 Hz. This is not sufficient to display a good frame rate. Thus I suggest that it only be used to display auxiliary information, not run the game itself on.

Maybe by the time I can afford to add a flatscreen monitor they will have something that can handle a more acceptable refresh rate.

Luckily the enjoyment of the chair doesnt depend on the presence of the flatscreen monitor arm idea.

What color carpet would look best as a covering over the wood?

How about hot pink for the carpet color?

I have have flat panel monitor and I've never had problems with frame rates. Lag is the biggest culprit in screwing my gaming.

Well I finally decided on a carpet color.

Dark Grey. Actually its indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot and the name of the color is Stingray which I thought was pretty cool.

I only bought enough to cover the back, ass, and legs surfaces for now.

I also bought and cut some more supplies for the right arm rest and mouse pad which will have the external CDRom built in underneith the mousepad.

Sorry I havent been playin with you guys the past few nights as this chair has been my main concern.
More pix will come soon.
