My dad needs an older laptop for his radio programming/repair/sales business.

The desktop that he had been running the programmers on is really starting to show age and he needs a replacement.

Specs:

At least 1 serial (RS232) port, 9 pin style preferably
CDROM or USB reading capable (hey we gotts give it programs somehow)
Working screen
Batteries that can be replaced
AC Line adapter

Obviously he doesnt need much, just a box he can carry around into vehicles and do a programming on the fly. It can have the cd drive and the usb stuff via a PCMCIA port, but the serial port has to be out the back or side of the board, something about how the PCMICA bridge does RS232 doesnt create a true serial port.

Speed really is not an issue, in fact the slower the better because some of these old programs use cycle counting delays instead real time delays. (My laptop at 2.2 Ghz seemed to be the max speed for the really picky programs)

Let me know what you guys have or have access to and we can discuss payment.

Thanks guys, I'm sure at least one of you will have something that will fit the task.

Ebay is your best bet for older stuff. Theres a ton of older laptops out there. I'd recommend an older thinkpad. They're built like bricks so all the moving around won't hurt them. The T40 and T30 series stuff was good.

Will look into that, still open to anyone with one sitting around at their houses tho.
