it's OMGFABULOUS!
(currently on test server)
This week, we have made great progress in implementing Joystick Support into PlanetSide. Soon, players will have a wider range of options and control while navigating through the world. Weâre excited to be bringing this out, as it has been a central wish of ours, as well as the communityâs for some time. For more details, check out the article In Development.

i wont jump for joy till they incorporate BOTH force feedback and standard aircraft flight characteristics, not being able to do a split s is really reall really startign to get on my nerves, actually ya knwo what the ability to actually EVADE a damn lockon missle via a nicely timed breakaway turn would be nice
I hopped on the test server last night and tried out flying the mosquito with my Saitek Evo. I can turn about twice as fast as I can with a mouse. It will take a lot of practice to find a level of usage where I am comfortable, but it looks promising.
I played Descent for nearly seven years, so that flight model is heavily engrained in my brain, so I doubt I will ever grasp the PS flight model fully. I stil ltry to fly it like a Pyro. :)

hmmm yeah.. tried out joystick support myself and with just my shitty Gravis Axis pad I did pretty well with flying and with soldier movement..I would have to put some bucks into a good joystick/pad for this to be really enjoyable :)

So basically...those of us who fly and don't use a joystick will get destroyed now, right?

Not by me, for a while... I am not convinced I am going to invest the time to master the joystick. But, from what I saw, the joystick offers some advantages in turning speed as you can reach maximum turn apetures much more quickly than with a mouse -- at least, I could.

yes, this is true, depending on the settings you select for your sensitivities when configuring the stick.
a disadvantage that crops up for me is the loss of avaliable options for my left hand. with my keyboard, i could hit about 25 keys without having to reach; my joystick's throttle replaces seven of those, the stick itself replaces two, the hat switch replaces four. there are four buttons for the left hand on my stick. that means i'm losing 12 commands to which i'm accustomed to having easy access, in exchange for finer analog contol.
it's not going to be easy
