The Dev Team is currently in the process of analyzing the status of Version 2.7 and planning the contents of version 2.8. The following items have been confirmed as 2.8 features and are under active development for that release.

Data tracking is being implemented to begin the tracking process for Merit Commendations. With the first update, no awards will be available, though the data will start being tracked to count toward the first round of commendations when they are released. The shoulder pad will be implemented and the Meritorious Service (one year of playing) commendation will be available.
The Map screen will now feature an overlay grid, dividing the map into sectors that can be easily identified and communicated. A soldier's grid location will be shown in the proximity radar.
A new feature is being implemented called Proximity Squad formation. This feature will simplify the squad formation process by sending an invite to un-squadded players within a certain radius of the player who initiates the command.
Players will have the ability to spawn multiple chat windows, where they can send different channels to. For example, a player could create a new window that all broadcast chat would be sent to.

In addition, several other game updates are planned and in various stages of development, and are planned for future updates, including the following.

Three new Battle Island continents are in development.
The Phantasm, a light cloaking air transport, is currently in development.
Players will be able to toggle waypoints between 4 states: Fully on, No Arrow, Personal Waypoint only, Off.

You can expect to see more details on the Battle Islands and the Phantasm in upcoming Development articles.

ÂÂ*Also, we have seen reports of kill counts not properly counting toward the count on My PlanetSide. We have reported this issue to QA for verification and will be working toward its resolution. This is not listed as a feature of 2.8 or 2.9 since this issue may not be entirely contained to PlanetSide's development, but also to our Web Dev department. In other words, a fix may be totally invisible as far as the client is concerned and may not happen simultaneously with the next update (With any luck, it will happen before then).

Weekly Dev Activities will return to their Monday schedule next week. We just had a three day weekend throwing us off this week

So we are getting MORE places to fight? Hmmm. Well, as long as it is fun, it should be ok. Also, I have heard that existing continents will be turned into these battle islands, so there would not really be NEW territory to cover.

With the "new" conts i want bigger bases. That was my, welll one of my, downsides when i started this game. I pictres the bases being twice as big as they are.

Depending on how big they make the grid, this will be useful for calling out AMS to be OS'd.

Whas the point of the multiple chat windows. If i could survive with it off, so i could see more i would. But i use it enough to keep it open. And if you want to send to a certain channel just use "/" sincen it opens the wnidow, then what channel.... /s, /b, /c, /l, /o, /p...not that hard.

What i want them to start workign on is the OS'ing in a capitol. For those that dont know, thats what almost killed us at Oro... Yuo can' place a OS inside a capitol, shield up or not. I'm not sure if thats SOI or just near the building.
