Well folks, With heavy heart and unsteady hand, I have to write this, my farewell letter. It has been a fantastic time for me on the PlanetSide team, but all good things must come to an end. I will soon be leaving the PS team, and have already handed the official reigns over to Raja Altenhoff.

We've achieved a great deal over the past year, and the game is getting better every day. I'm really looking forward to seeing the upcoming design changes implemented. We are finally in position to respond to player feedback - I know that SmokeJumper and Spork are really happy with the dialogues that our In Concept forums have been inspiring. And let me simply let you know that some GREAT things are in the works that will be revealed over the next few months.

I'll still be out there playing, of course. So those of you who know my in-game handle can all kill me when I appear on the surface of Auraxis (though I won't appear as TSlothropPS very often).

No sentimentality here, just a sincere wish that you all continue to enjoy PlanetSide. I feel that it is truly the most interesting and challenging game released in the past few years, and I hope you all understand that you are a part of something totally new, and something that will continue to grow and improve.

Best of luck.

So you like to play PlanetSide? Me too! In fact I'll probably be using my force blade to knife you the next time you play.

I started playing back during the beta period. At the time I was checking out PlanetSide as research for a MMOFPS war game that I was working on. The size of the battles and the tactical teamwork of a good squad were two things that I had never experienced before. And the absolute carnage! Left, Right, Up, Down, everywhere I looked... something to shoot!

The TR was my first love. I figured "Terran", Terra, Earth...hey, that's me! Then came a successful run with the New Conglomerate and finally, it was time to embrace the Alien Technology. Being part of the other empires I always dreaded the sound of the VS MAXs, but playing as part of the VS can make that sound sweet music to your ears.

I started playing games back in the 70's when I was a kid. Dressed in my ToughSkins (a brand of jeans for those who don't know) and my scout uniform and a shaggy mop for a hair cut, a trip to the laundry mat with mom was the highlight of the week because of the Asteroids machine. This is back when the original Star Trek was cool. And, yes, I was one of those kids who would press all the buttons and have a great time even though the screen was flashing "insert coin". Hey, a quarter was a lot of money back then.

One of my best Christmases ever was when Santa got me an Intellivision. How cool! Sure some of my other friends had Atari, but Intellivision was a step beyond. The characters actually animated! I still hold a warm spot in my heart for Intellivision.

Growing up I spent many hours in arcades. I remember one time my best friend and I stayed in an arcade until closing time, then we stayed up all night so that we could get to the arcade in the morning right when it opened. Geez I was tired. I'm never doing that again! Arcades were also responsible for some of my truancy in high school. Back then arcades were cool instead of the chumpy arcades now where everything is either a racing game, a fighting game, or a light gun game. No more originality! But I digress...

My mom was always a little concerned about how much I played games. "Read a book," she said. "Playing games won't help you get a job." Ha! However, I must say that I do enjoy reading (I need to throw in that disclaimer in case any parents are reading).

I got my start in the game industry at Sony when the PlayStation was getting ready to launch its first set of games. Working in the games industry is really a great thing. It allows people to tap into a creative side that goes unused in so many other professions. Now I can spend all night thinking about how to sneak my squad into a base and not feel guilty.

So what's next for PlanetSide? Our mission is to combine user feedback with original ideas to refine and grow the game. Check the Dev Tracker Forum for the latest news and for an idea of what is on our plate next.

It is important that you, the community, participate in the various forums on the PlanetSide website so that your opinion can be heard (and yes, we do read the wishlist forum, but we don't post replies there). You have a chance to shape the game through our In-Concept forum and by providing us with feedback after game testing on our Public Test server. We will sort through player feedback and choose an appropriate course of action. No, we can't act on every suggestion, but we will take the best and incorporate those into our thinking.

Those of you lucky enough to check out the latest that is In-Development on Public Test, enjoy! See you on Auraxis!
